ABOUT US

Norelands extends to over 400 acres of top limestone grazing pastures. Its grasslands are sheltered by mature beech and oak woods, providing the perfect backdrop for conditioning young thoroughbreds. The stud farm at Norelands was established by the McCalmont family in 1912 and has remained in the family ever since. In the early years it was primarily used to care for the world-class book of mares visiting the famous stallion, The Tetrarch, as well as his sons and grandsons, who stood next door at the family’s estate, Mount Juliet and Ballylinch Stud.

In the past 150 years or so, the McCalmont family have owned and/or bred numerous classic winners, together with a plethora of group and listed winners. Stars of the past include Isinglass, Timothy, The Tetrarch, Tetretema, Mr Jinks and Mesopotamia. In the last decade alone, with a small yet quality book of mares, the stud at Norelands has produced classic winners Power, Magna Grecia and St Marks Basilica. The mantra of the farm has remained unchanged over time even with ever-changing market fashion trends towards more precocious sprinting types. A classic type thoroughbred remains the ultimate aim and producing genuine miler and middle distance types that train on and stand the test of time has been, and continues to be, the long-term aspiration of the farm.
